Topic #5 My Favorite Place

What is your favorite place you like to go now or what is your favorite place you have been to before?  Describe it and tell me why you like it.  It could be somewhere you went to on vacation or it could be your grandmother's house or it could be a special park you used to play in. It could also be a place you especially enjoy now, such as the Arboretum or Huntington Beach or a nearby relaxing spot.

When I was young, my family lived near the ocean.  There was no beach, but there was a rocky shoreline.  I loved to walk down to the shore and feel the cool ocean breeze blow on my face.  I loved how the sun reflected off the water and made everything sparkle.  I loved hearing the sound of the waves crash upon the rocks.  I also enjoyed climbing around on the rocks and jumping from one large rock to another.  Most of all I appreciated the beauty of God's creation.

How about you?

Topic #4 - Major

What is your major and why did you pick this field to study?  Who or what influenced you to go in this direction?  What natural talents or skills do you have that will be an asset to you in your future career?  Are you pursuing a Bachelor's degree or Master's Degree?  Are you interested in getting a PhD?  Did you ever change directions in your studies?  Did you study one area for your Bachelor's degree and now want to study something different for your Master's degree?  If you are still not sure what major you would like to pursue, what are the choices you are considering?

Topic #3 Obstacles

Have you ever had to overcome any obstacles in life?  Some people are born with a physical disability.  Some people have had to overcome prejudice or discrimination.  Some people had financial struggles.  Some people have a hard time learning and concentrating in school.  Some people had family problems like divorce or abandonment or even alcohol or physical abuse. Or sometimes other people have said critical or negative things to you.  Any one of these situations can become an obstacle to stop you or a obstacle to overcome.  Have you every experienced any challenging situations and have had to overcome them?

You don't have to share to personally if you don't want to.  The obstacle can be as generic as learning and overcoming the language barrier.

Check out this link below to see the obstacles Nick Vujicic overcomes every day.

Topic #2 Spring Break Adventures

Hi Class,

How did your spring break go?  What new adventures did you experience?  What was the best thing you enjoyed during the break?  What was the worst thing that happened?

All kinds of things can happen when you go on a trip.  One time my family was on vacation in Canada and my purse got stolen.  I lost my passport, driver's license, cell phone, keys, camera memory chip, everything!!  That was an adventure going to the police station to report the incident and then coming back through the Canadian security without any documentation!  Another time when we were traveling, someone hit our rental car.  Then I had to take my three young children and my young niece to wait at an auto body shop while they fixed the minor damage.  That was an adventure keeping four children entertained on a very hot and humid day all by myself because my husband had some business to attend to.

Even if you stayed in the local area and maybe didn't have anything significant happen to you, you can share about what you did.  Did you visit any friends?  Did you watch any movies?  Did you try a new restaurant?

Have fun sharing about your new experiences with the class!  :)
